Recettori solubili della transferrina: anemie da carenza di ferro e da malattia cronica
Umberto Occhiuzzi
Biochimica Clinica: 2002; 26(1): 5-8 [Article in italian]
ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to assess the possible role of serum sTfR and sTfR/logFerritin ratio for the differential diagnosis between iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) and anaemic chronic disease. We studied 30 anaemic patients. 15 of them were also affected by kidney chronic insufficiency or tumour or rheumatoid arthritis. As a control group we included in the study 10 additional patients without anaemia or other chronic and acute diseases. The study showed a close connection between sTfR increase in serum and IDA; furthermore the ratio sTfR/logFerritin in blood is a stronger indicator to make a differential diagnosis between ACD and IDA.

ABSTRACT. The aim of this work is to study if there is concordance between the cervical mucus symptom, valued by Billings method and the determination of LH levels carried out by a commercial assay kit. Ten voluntary women participated in our research. The results put in evidence a considerable concordance between determinations obtained by the two different methods. Moreover, the voluntary women showed a pleasant acceptance with a simple and fast chemical method in confirmation of the mucus symptom one.

ABSTRACT. The tissue-Transglutaminase (t-Tg) has been reported to be the target for endomysial antibodies in coeliac disease. Coeliac disease if untreated, even if clinically silent, predispose for other autoimmune disease. ELISA methods to detect anti tissue-Tranglutaminase provide efficient alternative to the anti-endomysial (EMA) immunofluorescent method and are suitable for screening. Our aim was to compare four commercial kit utilizing t-Tg from guinea pig (GP-tTG) to the standard method that we developed in our laboratory and with the new method employing human recombinant t-TG (hr-tTG). We tested serum samples from 16 untreated celiac patients, 10 coeliac patients in gluten free diet, 22 subjects with other disease and 32 healthy controls. Results show that human t-TG had a superior efficiency in diagnosis of celiac disease.

ABSTRACT. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) measurement in amniotic fluid (LAM) samples from pregnant women, between 14 and 21 weeks of pregnancy, allows to detect risks for neural tube defects and others fetal abnormalities. Between december 1999 and december 2000 we measured AFP in 429 amniotic fluids by means of an immunoenzimatic method (AFP-EIA Cobas Core Roche). The results evaluation was by week of pregnancy, with the exclusion of results belonging to fetal abnormality cases. We have therefore established the alphafetoprotein reference range in LAM for the more representative weeks of pregnancy, using median values and multiples of the median (MoM).
