The Italian Journal of Biochemistry
I N S T R U C T I O N S T O A U T H O R S
JB publishes articles in the following general fields:
- Biochemistry
- Molecular Biology
- Molecular Cell Biology
- Biophysics
All submitted manuscripts should contain original research not previously published and not under consideration for publication elsewhere and must be written in English.
IJB publishes articles of the following categories, all of which include abstract, acknowledgements and references sections:
- Review papers: 10,000 words (20 pages)
- Minireview papers: 4,000 words (7 pages)
- Original Research articles: 8,000 words (14 pages)
- Biochemical Educational articles: 5,000 words (8 pages)
- Perspectives and Hypotheses: 4,000 words (7 pages)
Preparation and Submission of the Manuscript
Manuscript preparation must be carried out according to the following general guidelines:
- Prepare the text in Microsoft Word 6.0 or a later version.
- Use Times New Roman with a font size of 12.
- The text should be left-justified. Use double-spacing on all pages, including in the following order: 1) the title page, 2) the abstract, 3) the text, 4) the acknowledgments, 5) the references (Author name, author initial(s), title of the citation, abbreviated Journal name, year, volume, initial and end pages) 6) the individual tables, 7) the figure legends and 8) a copy of the Figures properly numbered and embedded in the manuscript.
- Publication quality figures should be prepared by using computer applications capable of generating high resolution TIFF, EPS, BMP or equivalent. Embedding the figures in the main text is advised for the initial submission but is not accepted for the final publication. Figures may have the size of one column, half a page or one page and their resolution will be 600 dpi; therefore the dimensions of a one column figure will be approximately 1900 x 1600 pixels. Submitted figures prepared with software applications which require additional editing by IJB (i.e., PhotoShop, PowerPoint, etc) will not be accepted and will result in a time delay in the publication. Presently IJB accepts only high quality black and white figures.
- Manuscripts should be written in concise and grammatically correct English.
- Submission of manuscripts may be effected either electronically or by regular mail. For regular mail submission prepare a disk of the article (3.5-inch high density diskette, CD-ROM, or Iomega 100MB Zip disk) which must accompany the manuscript upon submission. Tables, complex equations (in graphical format) and figures should be embedded in the manuscript and on the same disk under a separate file name. Clearly label the disk with the corresponding Author's name, and date of submission. The disk must be free of viruses and we recommend to check all files with your latest virus screening program. Although a MS-Word file is acceptable, it is highly recommended, whenever possible, to submit the complete manuscript in PDF format in the submission disk along with three hardcopies of the manuscript.
- Electronically-submitted manuscripts should consist of a single MS-Word or PDF file containing the text together with the figures and tables. Files should be attached to an e-mail addressed to the chosen Executive Editor (see below); any communication to the Editor should be written in the accompanying e-mail cover letter and not in the manuscript file.
- Upon receival, the corresponding Author will receive an e-mail message from the Executive Editor containing the date of reception, the assigned manuscript number for future reference and a deadline indicating the date whereby the anonimous referees will provide the commentary notes on the manuscript.
- Manuscripts should be mailed or e-mailed to one of the following Executive Editors:
